At the intersection of craft, poetry, and spirituality, Páramo explores landscape as a way of understanding our place within a wider web of interdependence, and making as a form of knowledge.

Collection of vases

Each piece is made by hand using native clays, volcanic minerals, and ashes. The process of making becomes a way of learning to look, listen, and dwell in the world with greater care.

Páramo is also a love letter to my friends.
My work has taken shape through their inspiration and collaboration.

May you be blessed with good friends.
May you learn to be a good friend to yourself.
May you be able to journey to that place in your soul where
there is great love, warmth, feeling, and forgiveness.
May this change you.
May it transfigure that which is negative, distant, or cold in you.
May you be brought in to the real passion, kinship, and affinity of belonging.
May you treasure your friends.
May you be good to them and may you be there for them;
may they bring you all the blessing, challenges, truth,
and light that you need for your journey.
May you never be isolated.
May you always be in the gentle nest of belonging with your Anam Ċara.

A Friendship Blessing by John O'Donohue

Que seas bueno con ellos y que estés presente para ellos;

Photography has been a keen component of Páramo's language since its beginnings.

More than a means of documentation, it has become another way of looking at the work and inspiration—of attending to its textures, gestures, spaces, and the quiet relationships that unfold around each piece.

A significant part of the photographic archive has been developed with my dear friend and longtime collaborator, Diego Cerda Martín, whose images have accompanied Páramo throughout its journey. More of his work can be found at diegocerda.com.

I grew up in close relationship with the Andean landscape, which has shaped my way of seeing and being in the world since childhood.

My commitment to inner life, community, and attentive listening has its roots in several years spent as a member of the Society of Jesus. Then, I encountered ceramics at Casa Taller | Soroche de los Andes in Ecuador. I later moved to Mexico, where I studied philosophy and worked closely with ceramic artist Maxine Álvarez and Casa Ceniza.

Years later, I found my way to Hayulima, a natural sanctuary in the Chocó Andino, where my spiritual and communal life deepened through an experience with entheogens. I remain deeply grateful for the time I spent there, and for each return.

The places I have inhabited and the people I have encountered along the way have deeply shaped my understanding of life and continue to inform my artistic practice.

In 2020, during a period of personal uncertainty, I began to envision what would become Páramo: an ongoing project through which I develop my work in ceramics and explore the relationship between craft, poetry, and spirituality.

I am currently based between Ecuador and Colombia, where my practice continues to take shape, travel, and move outward.

Craft is a form of knowledge.

El oficio es una forma de conocimiento.

The hand returns us to the body. Matter resists, responds, and teaches. Working with clay is a way of learning to look, listen, and dwell.

Landscape is a form of knowledge.

El paisaje es una forma de conocimiento.

It holds memory, interdependence, and ways of being that precede and exceed us. To pay attention to the landscape is to recognize that we are part of something larger than ourselves.

The craftsperson guides materials toward a vocation inherent in their nature: the work lies in finding them at the center of the hands. Centering is returning, again and again, to an attentive relationship between body, matter, and gesture. Centering is thinking in wholes.

I make objects: quiet forms that accompany everyday life, cultivate attentiveness, and open spaces for contemplation and encounter.

Beauty is a way of remaining in the world.
